Doc Watkins opened Jazz, TX in San Antonio in 2016. In 2025 he opened Doc's in Houston, inside the Tower Theatre, a 1936 movie palace on Westheimer in Montrose. Its stage has hosted names from Ella Fitzgerald to Leon Russell, and now Doc plays it himself.
Doc's also books him with the 11-piece Orchestra and for solo piano nights. The Quartet is the smaller version, with Doc at the piano, Brandon Guerra on drums, Adam Carrillo on sax and Mike Porter on bass. The same four play at Jazz, TX in San Antonio too, but this room is a movie palace with reserved seating and table service.
The music runs from jazz to blues to gospel, with a little classical piano. Come early for supper club fare, with steaks, seafood and pastas and cocktails to match.
