Miles & Cannonball: A Tribute to Two Jazz Giants
Tue, Nov 03
The Felix DeLeon Quintet has played this tribute at Doc's more than once. The music comes from the records Miles Davis and Cannonball Adderley made together in the late 1950s. Cannonball joined Miles's band in 1957 and played on Milestones in 1958 and Kind of Blue in 1959. In 1958 he also made Somethin' Else for Blue Note, with Miles on trumpet. DeLeon, who grew up in Houston, takes the trumpet part, and the band trades solos the way those records do. He has led nights at Doc's for Dizzy Gillespie, and for Miles Davis with John Coltrane.
