On the Record started life as a one-off called "Pop Gets Jazzed!," played during Doc's opening week in November 2025. It stuck, and it keeps coming back. Drummer Graeme Francis leads the band, with Jose-Miguel Yamal on keys and David Craig on bass. Each time out they cover a different slice of pop history: Broadway, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Nirvana, tracing how much of it started out as jazz. It helps that the room agrees with them. Doc's sits inside the old Tower Theatre, built in 1936, back when jazz was the pop music on the radio. The trio treats a rock song like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and a jazz standard like "Take the A Train" as two verses of the same tune. New night, new songs, same idea.
About Doc's Houston
