On the Record started life as a one-off called "Pop Gets Jazzed!," presented during Doc's opening week in November 2025. It struck a chord then, and continues to resonate with audiences today. Drummer Graeme Francis leads the band, with Jose-Miguel Yamal on keys, David Craig on bass, and Isidoro Ramos on trumpet. The show is divided into sets, each covering a different slice of pop history: Broadway, the Beatles, synth-pop, grunge, and finally R&B and Hip Hop. The audience is guided along a century of pop music history through witty anecdotes and humorous personal stories, creating an interactive and entertaining night of music beloved by all, cleverly reimagined for jazz quartet.
About Doc's Houston
Doc's is Houston's premier supper club and live music venue, set inside Montrose's historic Tower Theatre. A landmark 1936 movie palace, its stage has hosted legends such as Ella Fitzgerald and Leon Russell, Steve Martin and Ray Charles. Re-opened in 2025 by bandleader and pianist Doc Watkins, the club brings the golden era of the supper club back to Westheimer. Live music runs Tuesday through Saturday, with performances by Doc Watkins and his orchestra to world-class touring artists.
