Raquel Cepeda Septet: Swing Brazil
Wed, Oct 21
This is Raquel Cepeda's second show at Doc's. She has also played MATCH and The Heights Theater. Before she was a singer, she was a geologist. She worked in oil until 2015, then left to sing full time. She sings in Portuguese. Her bossa nova and samba sound like the real thing. Her album Passion hit number one on a jazz chart for eight weeks straight. It was also up for a 2020 Pepsi Music Award. She fronts a septet, seven voices and instruments together. Pianist Barry Sames, bassist Thomas Helton, and drummer Adriano Santos keep the pulse. Percussionist Jesus Pacheco, saxophonist Ernesto Vega, and guitarist Stephan Badreau round it out. Together they move from the hush of bossa nova to the swing of samba.
