Jazz and Latin music vocalist Ermelinda Cuellar is known to Houston audiences for her warm mezzo vocals coupled with sophisticated rhythmic feels. Her vocal style is often described as a combination of Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and Peruvian singer Susan Baca. Cuellar’s been recognized by music critics for her precise intonation, inventive improvisations and passionate story telling in both English and Spanish. This special evening includes jazz standards with her signature Latin sound, beloved traditional Spanish tunes, and featured songs from her new album, "Under A Lavender Sky." She will be accompanied by Darrell Lavigne (piano), Horace Alexander Young (saxophone), Anthony Caceres (upright bass), and Andrew Sneed (drums). Jazz Sensibilities said, “…each song presents distinct musical colors. Cuellar masterfully integrates cultural heritage and jazz traditions into a cohesive and deeply expressive musical journey.” Cuellar’s sophomore album release, "Under A Lavender Sky" (2025) was co-produced with well-known musician and arranger, Horace Alexander Young. Cuellar has headlined many Texas regional jazz clubs, outdoor events and festivals most recently Monks (Austin), Texas Jazz Festival (Corpus Christi) and lends her vocals all over Houston; “The King Cole Legacy Experience” (Miller Outdoor Theater), Día de Muertos Festival (MECA, Houston), Center for Performing Arts Medicine (Houston Methodist, Crain Garden Concerts), Music at the Rienzi (MFAH house museum of European decorative arts) and the Trinity Jazz Festival (Houston) where she and her ensemble opened for Benny Benack III.
